BNP may not consider toppling govt again: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said she does not think BNP would consider any move to topple the government in the future again as the party has lost its strength by resorting to subversive activities in the name of anti-government movement.

“I hope she (Khaleda) will not get that much strength to consider ousting the government in the future,” she said while talking to top district officials of Natore and Feni through videoconferencing from the Cabinet Division of Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka.

Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan conducted the videoconferencing.

The prime minister also asked the law enforcers to track down the culprits who are responsible for the killing of innocent people in arson attacks during the BNP-Jamaat’s three-month non-stop blockade from January.

“They have to face the trial,” she told the law enforcers who took part in the videoconference, adding that ensuring security to the lives and properties of the people is very necessary.

The premier alleged that BNP chief Khaleda “started killing people through arson attacks” from January 5 when the country was progressing.

“I have no idea what Khaleda Zia has achieved in the last 92 days,” she said questioning the reasons behind killings in the name of politics.

“She had to surrender before court and go back to her home again,” Hasina said.

She also asked the district administrations to remain vigil so that the development programmes taken by the government could be implemented in time.

“If we all remain united, we will be able to overcome this situation. Bangladesh will be back on track of development again. I firmly believe that we will be able to tackle the loss incurred during the last 92 days (of BNP-led alliance’s political agitation),” she said.

Mentioning several development activities of the government, the premier said the country is advancing fast despite the BNP-Jamaat alliance’s reign of destruction since January.

The PM said the investment scenario is just fine now and there is no problem.

“The investors came and invested in the country during this volatile situation,” she said, adding that the government succeeded to maintain the over six percent GDP and kept the inflation rate under seven percent.
