BNP leader RA Gani laid to rest
BNP standing committee member Dr RA Gani was buried at Banani graveyard in Dhaka this afternoon.
He was laid to rest after his third namaz-e-janaza in front of the Nayapaltan central office of the party.
BNP’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Vice Chairman Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and many other leaders and activists took part in the janaza.
Earlier, his first janaza was held after Juma prayers in the city’s Dhanmondi’s Eidgah Mosque and the second at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Dr Gani died at the city’s Square Hospital around 12:15am today after suffering from various old-age complications for a long.
He was admitted to the hospital on January 6 after he felt sick and complained of respiratory problems.
Since Wednesday night, the renowned scientist was kept on life support. After his death, his body was taken to his Dhanmondi residence in the capital this morning.
Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today expressed her condolences over the death of her party’s standing committee member.
Dr Gani was a minister for science and technology when BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was in power.
