Ishraque indicted in corruption case; trial begins Feb 9

A Dhaka court framed charges against BNP's Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral candidate Ishraque Hossain in connection with a graft case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in 2010.

Ishraque, son of former Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-4 read out the charges before him.

The court also turned down the petition filed by Ishraque seeking acquittal of the charges in the case.

The judge fixed February 9 to start the trial of the case.

Earlier on December 6 of 2018, ACC Deputy Director Jahangir Hossain pressed charges against Ishraque in the case.

Later on May 5 last year, Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Senior Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka took cognisance of the charges in his absence and issued arrest warrant against him.

Ishraque on December 9 last year secured bail from the court on his surrender in the case.

According to the prosecution, it was alleged that the ACC on September 1 of 2008 served a notice asking Ishraque to submit his wealth statement to it in seven days.

But Ishraque failed to submit his wealth statement to the ACC within the time which was given in the notice. Later on August 29 of 2010, the ACC filed a case against him with Ramna Police Station.
