Abbas’s bid for Dhaka-9 gets fresh chance
BNP candidate Mirza Abbas gets a chance to have his nomination freshly scrutinised as the Supreme Court today rejected a government petition against his candidature.
Abbas’s filing for Dhaka-9 was rejected by the returning officer as they said he delayed in submitting his nomination.
The BNP leader, who is also running from Dhaka-8, then went to the High Court which ordered the returning officer to scrutiny his nomination paper.
The government moved to the Supreme Court to stay the order but the highest court rejected the plea.
Today, a six-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain directed the chief election commissioner to forward the nomination letter of Mirza Abbas to the returning officer in 24 hours for scrutiny.
