Govt creating violence to retain power: BNP
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today claimed that ruling Awami League is creating a violent situation centering the 16th amendment verdict to retain power.
The ruling party high ups are knocking at the door of the president to change the Supreme Court verdict on the 16th amendment, Fakhrul alleged.
It is at the same time threatening to face the verdict legally and politically, Fakhrul said.
“To me, it seems that the ruling party is trying to create a violent situation to retain power,” the BNP leader said while addressing a programme in Dhaka this noon.
Referring to the verdicts of the 13th and 5th amendment to the constitution, Fakhrul slammed Law Commission Chairman ABM Khairul Haque and said: “This very person destroyed the country’s democratic process”.
“The country has been plunged into an unstable, unsecured and violent situation in the pretext of the verdicts,” Fakhrul said.
He also raised question about the legality of Khairul Haque as chairman of the Law Commission.
Fakhrul also accused Awami League of hatching conspiracy to establish one-party rule in the country by destroying all democratic institutions.
He also criticised Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda over the latter’s statement that he will not mediate among political parties ahead of the upcoming general election.
