BNP seeks time to submit audit report
BNP today sought one and half more month time from the Election Commission to file audit reports of its annual income and expenditure of 2014.
As per Political Parties Registration Rule-2008, all registered parties have to submit annual audit reports, certified by a listed chartered accountant firm, within July 31 of the following year.
BNP Assistant Office Secretary Asadul Karim Shahin sent a request letter to the Election Commission this morning seeking one and half more month time.
Talking to The Daily Star, he said the party’s secretary general could not attend his office properly due to arrest and harassment by the government. “That’s why we couldn’t prepare our report in scheduled time.”
The EC last month sent reminders to all 40 political parties about the July 31 deadline.
The registration of a party will be cancelled if it fails to submit audit reports for three consecutive years, according to the Representation of the People Order (RPO).
