BNP to stage demo after Jumma prayers

BNP will stage countrywide demonstrations after Jumma prayers protesting the jail of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

The party leaders and activists will stage demonstrations as a part of their two-day protest programmes, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said in press release.

As part the schedule, leaders, activists and supporters of the party's different front and associate bodies will observe the programme at district, metropolitan city and upazila level headquarters across the country.

The similar programme will also be staged across the country on Saturday protesting the verdict against Khaleda Zia, Rizvi said in the press release.      

Amid heightening tensions and various speculations, a special court in Dhaka yesterday handed down the former prime minister to five years' imprisonment in the much-talked-about Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
