BNP standing committee meeting today

Deprived leaders vandalise BNP Gulshan Office

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will hold a meeting with her party standing committee members this evening.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at Khaleda’s Gulshan residence around 8:30pm, Syrul Kabir Khan, a staff of BNp chief’s press wing, told The Daily Star.

BNP leaders will mainly discuss the party’s next course of action centering the verdict in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case, he said.

Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Court-5 on January 25 fixed February 8 to announce the verdict in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case filed against Khaleda, her son Tarique Rahman and four others.

The Anti-Corruption Commission had filed the graft case with Ramna Police Station in July 2008, accusing Khaleda and five others of misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore that had come from a foreign bank as grants for orphans.

Several hundred BNP leaders and activists have either been arrested or picked up from across the country following an attack on cops reportedly carried out by the party men on January 30 in Supreme Court area.

The detentions were made by the law enforcers ahead of the graft case verdict announcement.
