In response to BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul’s claim that yesterday’s attack at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office was by Chhatra League supporters, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said he could not believe that Mirza Fakhrul could lie so much.

“Who will believe this? Who will believe that Chhatra League apparently attacked?” Quader, also the minister for Road Transport and Bridges, said at a briefing at his ministry office in the Secretariat in Dhaka in reply to a query by journalists, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Quader also said the vandalism outside the BNP’s Nayapaltan office was planned beforehand and the party does not want to come to the elections.

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY?

During the third day of BNP’s nomination form sale at its Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka, clashes broke out between police and BNP supporters and activists.

While several people including policemen were hurt, two police vehicles were set on fire at the spot and many other vehicles vandalised.

But immediately afterwards, BNP blamed police for an unprovoked attack and urged its supporters to calm down and maintain a peaceful atmosphere.

However, police sued several BNP men in three separate lawsuits after the clashes.
