BCL suspends its CU unit after factional clash
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has suspended all activities of its Chittagong University (CU) unit for an indefinite period of time following factional clashes on campus over the last few days.
BCL central committee President Saifur Rahman Shohag confirmed the suspension to our CU correspondent today.
All activities of the two-member BCL CU unit will remain suspended until further notice, said Shohag.
“A show cause notice has been issued asking the factions to explain within three working days as to why they could not avoid the clashes,” Shohag told our CU correspondent.
“If they fail to explain the reasons behind the clashes, then organisational steps will be taken against them,” he added.
Meanwhile, a four-member committee led by Prof Jashim Uddin of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences has been formed by the Chittagong University authorities to investigate the clashes. The committee has been given seven working days to complete the investigation.
Earlier, two factions of BCL had engaged in clashes repeatedly on Monday which was followed by vandalism carried out in four rooms of Suhrawardy Hall on Tuesday, midnight.
