Denied, BNP calls for another rally Mar 19
Denied permission for a rally today, BNP has called for a fresh rally on March 19 to garner support and press for the release of their Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party’s secretary general, announced the fresh programme schedule at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office this morning.
“The government is in fear. They feel insecure about mass gatherings. That’s why they did not allow BNP to amass a gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan today,” Fakhrul said.
BNP had declared to organise a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan today. However, police denied them permission citing what they said was “security grounds”.
“The government wants to squeeze the voice of its opposition. They are not letting any opposition to voice their opinions and shape a public opinion,” Fakhrul said.
Since the imprisonment of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a graft case, the party has been pressing forward with peaceful protest programmes to press for her release.
