Quader reaches Singapore for treatment

The air ambulance of Mount Elizabeth Hospital carrying ailing Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader reached Singapore.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, reached Singapore around 10:15pm (local time), an Awami League source told The Daily Star.

He was taken to Singapore after Indian cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty gave the “go ahead” to shift Quader after examining him at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Earlier, the air ambulance of Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with Quader around 4:15pm.

Quader was admitted to BSMMU with blockages in three coronary arteries early yesterday.

At a briefing earlier in the day, BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Kanak Kanti Barua, quoting Dr Shetty, said that Quader's blood pressure improved and diabetes is under control. His condition is better than yesterday, he added.

Earlier, a chartered plane carrying renowned cardiologist Devi Shetty landed at Dhaka airport at 12:45pm, Airport Director Captain Abdullah Al Faruk told The Daily Star.

Dr Shetty flew from Bangaluru to Kolkata where Bangladesh’s Deputy High Commission to Kolkata and Visa Consular Mansur Ahmed completed his visa process at the airport, our Kolkata correspondent reports.

WHAT HAPPENED TO QUADER?

Obaidul Quader was hospitalised yesterday morning following breathing problems post-Fazr hours. He was diagnosed with blockages in three coronary arteries.

While undergoing treatment at the hospital, Quader suffered another heart attack.

According to doctors, Quader was suffering from uncontrolled diabetes and blood pressure. Also, the road transport minister has electrolyte imbalance.
