Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said no one involved in corruption will be spared and drives against them will continue.

“Action will be taken against anyone found involved in such activities across the country. Drives are continuing and everyday someone is being arrested,” Quader, also general secretary of Awami League, said at a briefing at his secretariat office.

Asked why action has been taken so late in this matter as the government is in power for the last 11 years, Quader said “Better late than never.”

Asked whether the government would be soft in dealing with Dhaka South Jubo League President Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, Quader replied, “No one will be spared.”

Even if anyone from the administrative posts found involved in such corruption, he or she will not be spared, he added.

Rapid Action Battalion started the drive against illegal casinos, bars and spa centres on September 19 and already arrested Dhaka city South Jubo League Organising Secretary Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan, construction mogul SM Golam Kibria Shamim and AL leader and Kalabagan Krirachakra president Shafiqul Alam Firoz.

During the subsequent drives, around 200 others were arrested while some of the casinos were sealed off.
