EVM to be used if law permits: CEC

Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) will be used in the upcoming general elections only if the law permits, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda today said.

But before using the EVM in the polls, the commission should be confirmed that the process of using the machine is flawless, the CEC said at a training programme of Election Commissioners at city’s Agargaon this morning.

“EVM will not be forcefully imposed,” the CEC said.

It will be natural for people to be apprehensive about the EVM process and they will have questions, the CEC said adding “We will try to address those (questions) among the voters.”

The CEC also urged everyone to slowly move from manual methods in the election process and adopt new technologies which will make everything much quicker and easier.
