Take steps to free transport sector from political influence: Dr Kamal
Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain today called upon the authorities concerned to take steps for freeing the country’s transport sector from political influence and enforce laws properly to restore discipline in the sector.
The veteran politician and eminent jurist said this at a press conference organised by Gonoforum at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.
“Political influence not only helps corruption to spread but also makes people indifferent to obey the law, which ultimately deteriorates the rule of law in the country,” Dr Kamal, also the convener of Jatiya Oikyafront, said.
Terming lack of governance as the main reason behind the prevailing anarchy in the transport sector, the Gonoforum president said, “It is necessary to ensure impartial and effective enforcement of laws to ensure good governance.”
Dr Kamal, one of the main architects of the country’s constitution, also said that the police must enforce laws in order to achieve the goal for which these laws are framed.
However, if the police are influenced by anybody then they become weak and tend to deviate from enforcing the rule of law, he added.
