BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that militant and extremist groups have turned the country into their safe haven as the government failed to stop them.

In a statement sent to media this afternoon, the BNP secretary general blamed what he said “government’s inaction” for failing to curb the militant attacks in the country.

Fakhrul has also expressed his party’s strong condemnation over the recent killings in militant attacks, including the murder of a veteran Hindu priest in Jhenidah Sadar this morning.

Describing the militant and extremist groups as monstrous, Fakhrul said they are enemies of the democracy, humanity and civilisation.

“The ruling party has lost its ability to stop their activities. The members of law enforcement agencies and their family members are being attacked by them due to the government’s acute failure,” he blamed.

Fakhrul also criticised some senior leaders and ministers of the ruling Awami League for their denial about the existence of militancy and extremism in the country and said the BNP leaders are being blamed for the prevailing killing spree.

Due to the government’s blame game, the militant outfits are rather being encouraged, Fakhrul noted.

The BNP leader also called upon the people from all classes and sections in the country to come forward in a bid to resist the militant attacks.
