Graft cases: Khaleda to appear before court Sunday
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will appear before a Dhaka court tomorrow to seek bail in Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust corruption cases, her counsel said today.
“She will reach the court in Bakshibazar around 11:30am,” lawyer Sanaullah Miah said.
But it was not clear whether she will return to her Gulshan office from the court tomorrow or go to her residence. She has been staying at the office since January 3.
Detail about his tomorrow’s programme will be fixed after Khaleda holds a meeting with her party leaders this evening, party sources said.
On Thursday, Khandker Mahbub Hossain, an adviser to BNP chairperson, said she will appear before the court “if the government provides her with adequate security”.
Criminals attacked Khaleda's car on December 24 last year when she went to the makeshift court in connection with Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust corruption cases.
On her instruction, the BNP-led 20-party alliance has been enforcing nationwide blockade since January 6 to protest the government's not allowing her party and allies to hold rallies in the capital and elsewhere.
On March 12, Khaleda flouted two arrest warrants in the two cases, and did not appear before the court citing security reasons.
