Gulshan house demolition illegal: Moudud
Senior BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed today said the demolition of the house on Gulshan Avenue from where he has been evicted recently was “completely illegal” and a violation of human rights.
“We have filed a writ petition challenging the legality of the eviction from the Gulshan residence and the hearing is scheduled to be held on July 2. To take down the building before the hearing is completely illegal,” Moudud told The Daily Star.
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) this morning started taking down the Gulshan house of Moudud from where he was evicted earlier this month.
“This is a political blame game. The government does not believe in the rule of law and does not have the minimum respect for the legal system,” Moudud said.
The BNP senior leader also said the claim that there is no Rajuk approval is a blatant lie and he submitted all the Rajuk papers to the lower court.
“The expansion of this building was done with Rajuk permission and if there was no approval why did not they do anything all this time, why now?” Moudud questioned.
Moudud was evicted from his three-decade-long residence on June 7 as he lost the legal battle over the ownership of the house worth Tk 300 crore in the capital's Gulshan.
Later he filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of his eviction from Gulshan residence.
The High Court kept the petition stand over (waiting for hearing) until it will reopen after its ongoing annual vacation. The court, which went on vacation on June 9, will reopen on July 2.
