Jamaat calls nationwide protest tomorrow
Jamaat-e-Islami will stage a countrywide “peaceful” protest tomorrow demanding the release of its secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, a death row war criminal.
“Mojaheed is an honest and competent politician who had unforgettable contribution in all democratic movements”, Jamaat acting ameer Moqbul Ahmad said in a statement.
The party came up with decision two days after the Supreme Court dismissed Mojaheed’s petitions for reviewing its verdict that upheld his death penalty given by a special tribunal in 2013.
The apex court paved way for the government to execute him dismissing his review petition on Wednesday.
Now the former minister is left with the last option of seeking presidential clemency by confessing to the crimes he committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
