Jamaat expels its central leader
Amid the rift between the party’s senior and old leaderships, Jamaat-e-Islami today expelled a member of the party’s majlish-e-shura, Majibur Rahman Monju, also former president of Islami Chhatra Shibir, from the organisation on charge of his involvement in anti-party activities.
Jamaat sources today confirmed this to The Daily Star.
The party came up with the harsh move, a day after the Jamaat's assistant secretary general Barrister Abdur Razzaq resigned from the party.
Razzaq, also the chief counsel for some senior Jamaat leaders convicted of war crimes, resigned citing the party's failure to apologise for its role in the Liberation War and bring reforms to its constitution.
The move came amid a rift between the party's young and old leaders over leadership and future strategies, according to the sources.
