Juktofront wants polls on Dec 30
Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury-led Juktofront has called upon the Election Commission to reschedule the election date on December 30 for the sake of nominating candidates with clean image.
His call came hours after announcement of the election schedule by the Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda this evening.
In his call, B Chowdhury said it would be better if the next general election is held on December 30 instead of December 23.
In a statement, Juktofront demanded that all dates including submission of nomination, scrutiny, and withdrawal of nomination papers be deferred for one week.
Announcing the schedule for the 11th parliamentary election on December 23, the CEC said the aspirants will have to submit their nomination papers by November 19.
The nomination papers will be scrutinised on November 22, he said adding that the last date for withdrawing candidature is November 29.
“We are deeply observing the announcement of the schedule of the 11th parliamentary election. But considering all the circumstances, the submission time of the nomination papers seems scanty. It will be tough to complete all the procedures in the stipulated time,” B Chowdhury said in the statement.
