Verdict on Kamaruzzaman review Monday
The Supreme Court will deliver its verdict tomorrow on the review petition filed by convicted war criminal Muhammad Kamaruzzaman against its verdict that upheld his death penalty.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha fixed the date after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence.
While placing his argument, Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, principal counsel for Kamaruzzaman, prayed to the court to commute his punishment from the death sentence.
International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced the Jamaat leader to death on May 9, 2013 for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Kamaruzzaman submitted his appeal to the apex court on June 6 the same year, challenging the judgment. The SC upheld it on November 3, last year.
He filed the review petition on March 5.
