Khaleda attends Jamaat iftar
Jamaat-e-Islami today said the government’s “conspiracy to ruin” the organisation through executing death sentences of its leaders convicted of crimes against humanity will not be successful.
Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Mujibur Rahman said this at an iftar programme at a city hotel attended by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia this evening.
Khaleda, also chief of BNP-led 20-party alliance, however, reached the venue minutes after the start of iftar at 6:53pm.
After the iftar, Khaleda was introduced with different Jamaat leaders who are now playing important role in the party in absence of its top leaders, now behind bars on war crimes charges.
In a written speech before iftar, Mujibur called upon the people to “resist injustice” quoting from a verse of the Holy Quran.
Most of the Jamaat’s top leaders including its acting chief and acting secretary general did not attend the programme fearing arrest.
Some nine central leaders of Jamaat were seen at the programme. Pro-BNP intellectuals, journalists, professionals, were among others, attended the iftar.
