Khaleda’s bail rejected in Cumilla arson case
A Cumilla court today denied bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in an arson attack case filed over killing of eight people in 2015.
The order came four-and-half months after she filed the bail petition in connection with the case, our local correspondent reports quoting defence lawyer Kaiyumul Haque Rinku.
District and Sessions Judges Court Judge Ali Akbarpassed the order today as the High Court on January 23 asked the lower court to dispose of the bail petition hearing by February (today).
On January 23, the HC directed the lower court concerned to dispose of a bail petition of Khaleda on February 4 in a case.
While passing the order, the HC said the Cumilla District and Sessions Judge's Court has to dispose of the bail petition on February 4, Kayser Kamal, a lawyer for Khaleda, told The Daily Star.
The BNP chairperson filed the petition with the HC on January 20, seeking bail in the arson case.
