Khaleda’s condition ‘grave’, relatives denied to meet
Jail authorities today denied relatives to meet BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia saying that she is ill.
The party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed concern over her physical condition after even he was denied to meet Khaleda over the same.
Among those who went to visit Khaleda at jail today were Khaleda’s sister Selina Islam, her nephew Avik Eskander, and Tarique Rahman’s mother in-law.
Fakhrul told journalists that the family members were denied a meeting with Khaleda.
“Jail authority told them that Madam (Khaleda) cannot come down to the ground floor. It seems to us that her physical condition is very bad. We were also denied to meet her,” he said.
Earlier on Thursday, three top leaders of BNP failed to meet Khaledaas the jail authorities did not allow them to enter the jail.
Fakhrul said, “Hearing it from the jail authority, family members of Madam are very anxious and so are we.”
BNP Chief Khaleda Zia landed in the jail on February 8 after a special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Fakhrul met Khaleda on April 6 in the jail gate and the very next day Khaleda was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University Hospital for some pathological examinations.
