Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, press secretary to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, has been sued for torturing his wife, police said.

Tania Khan, wife of Sohel, filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station last night under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, Jamaluddin Mir, officer-in-charge of the police station, told The Daily Star.

Sohel beat up his wife with “lethal weapon” following a family feud yesterday afternoon, leaving her critically injured, said Tarekuzzaman, investigation officer of the case.

Later, the victim was admitted at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, the IO added.

In the complaint, Tania alleged that her husband developed illegal relation with other women. He beat her up when she raised her voices against this, the IO said.

The Daily Star could not reach Sohel over his mobile phone for his comment in this regard as his phone was found switched off.
