KCC polls: No BNP agents at 4 centres

Polling agents of the BNP-backed mayoral candidate were not seen in at least four polling centres during Khulna City Corporation elections since the voting began this morning.

Our Khulna correspondent so far visited Ward 22, 28, 29 and 31 of the city and saw no BNP polling agent there.

Supporters of the Awami League-backed mayor candidate took position on both sides of all the four polling centres and were not letting any BNP supporter to come near.

The four polling centres are: Khulna Zila School in Ward 22, West Tutpara Secondary School in Ward 28, Koylaghat Government Primary School in Ward 29 and Mollahpara Government Primary School in Ward 31.

Ward 29

BNP supporters and several voters brought allegations of vote rigging at the polling centre under Ward 29, near to AL-backed mayor candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque's residence, the correspondent said.

When asked, Presiding Officer Mehdi Hasan Sheikh told the correspondent that he did not get any complaint and situation inside the police centre was peaceful.

There are 1,063 voters at the centre and by 10:45am 302 votes were cast, the correspondent said.

Ward 22

AL supporters allegedly drove out an agent of BNP-backed mayoral candidate Nazrul Islam Monju from Khulna Zila School centre under Ward 22 this morning.

Monju took the agent there with him when he cast his vote at the centre this morning.

Meanwhile, one former BNP lawmaker faced obstruction by the AL men when she went to exercise her franchise. However, she was able to cast her vote later.

Yunus Ali, a returning official, told the correspondent over phone that he did not receive any complaint from the centre yet.

Ward 28

AL men took position at West Tutpara Secondary School polling centre under Ward 28.

Total voters at the centre are 2433 and by 11:35am 810 votes were cast.

Mostly, young and new voters were seen at the polling station when the correspondent visited the spot in the morning.

Ward 31

Similar scenario prevailed at Mollahpara Government Primary School polling centre in Ward 31.

Here total voters are 1329 and by 11:00am 415 votes were cast.
