BNP today alleged that the government has killed militant suspect Faizullah Fahim in “crossfire” to hide the real fact behind the terrorist attack on Madaripur college teacher Ripon Chakraborty.

It could be known whether he (Fahim) was a militant and who else was involved with the militant activities by examining his statements through legal process, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said.

“The truth could be revealed through interrogating him in remand, but the government killed him in crossfire burying the fact as it didn’t want the facts to come into light,” he said while briefing media at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.

The BNP leader also said the killing of Fahim in “crossfire” demonstrates the government link to extremism as well as the recent killings.

Yesterday, Fahim, who was on a 10-day remand in connection with the attack on Ripon, was killed in a reported gunfight between his associates and police in Madaripur Sadar.

In the briefing, Rizvi said, “Cases are being filed and probes are being carried out, but the real killers remain out of touch and the mystery behind the incidents remains unsolved.”

He said although the weeklong operation ended Friday night, the law enforcers have continued arresting BNP leaders and activists in different parts of the country, including Feni, Khulna, Gaibandha, Bagerhat and Natore.
