Barisan Nasional did not cheat in the general election, said its Chairman Najib Tun Razak.

Najib's statement comes after Barisan failed to achieve a simple majority to form a Federal Government in the 14th General Election.

"There were defamatory and seditious statements that said Barisan cheated during the general elections," said Najib in an address at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) this morning.

"There was no cheating by Barisan Nasional members," he said.

Najib said there were also rumours that a special meeting to win back the country (majlis keselamatan negara) was carried out last night at 10:00pm, which is not true.

He said he was proud of what he had achieved as prime minister since he took office in 2009.

"We have created more than three million jobs and the poverty level is at a record low.

"However, it is clear what we did is less appealing compared to what was offered by our opponents.

"We did our best but I admit there was some imperfection but our priority has always been to ensure the security and prosperity of Malaysians.

The Pekan MP said he accepted the verdict of the people.

"Barisan is committed to respect the principles of Parliament. But because no single party achieved a simple majority, the Agong will make a decision on who will be prime minister," said Najib.

He urged the people to respect the decision that will be made by the Agong, and trust that the Agong will make the best decision.

"Now the rakyat will wait and see if the promises by (Pakatan Harapan) that were made in their manifesto and speeches are kept," said Najib.

He ended his speech by thanking Barisan members and members in "Barisan's family".

"The 79 seats we won is a mandate of great responsibility.

"We will carry out our responsibilities so that the rakyat can trust Barisan more in the future," he said.
