Ministers, MPs can’t take part in electioneering: EC
“Very important” persons like ministers and lawmakers cannot take part in election activities and campaign ahead of the Dhaka city corporation polls, Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder said today.
“It’s not possible to go beyond the law. Very important persons can’t participate in any election activities and campaign. They only can cast their votes,” said the election commissioner told reporters this afternoon.
He came up with the remark at a time when AL leaders Tofail Ahmed and Amir Hossain Amu were made chiefs of the Awami League’s Election Supervising Committee for Dhaka north and south city corporations respectively.
He was talking to journalists after a delegation from ruling Awami League met with the election commissioner to discuss on Dhaka north and south city polls today. AL leader HT Imam was leading the delegation.
Mahbub Talukder also called upon the countrymen and political party leaders and activists to go to voting centres to cast their votes on the election day scheduled to be held on January 30.
