A Comilla court today sent BNP standing committee member MK Anwar to jail in a case filed for petrol bomb attack on a bus in the district earlier this year.

Senior Judicial Magistrate ASM Shahidullah Kaiser rejected his bail prayer and ordered sending him to jail, reports a correspondent from Comilla.

The 84-year-old BNP leader surrendered before the court on expiry of a four-week bail granted by a High Court bench.

The case was filed on February 3, a day after seven people were killed and 28 injured in a petrol bomb attack at a Dhaka-bound coach in Chouddogram upazila, the hometown of former BNP lawmaker.

The BNP-led 20-party alliance had enforced a three-month-long blockade and series of hartals from January 6 demanding fresh elections under a non-party government.

The agitation programme was unofficially called off on April 5 when BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia surrendered before a special judge’s court at Dhaka’s Bakshibazar and later returned to her residence from her political office in Gulshan.

Khaleda stayed for 92 days at her political office since January 5.
