Most deals were in favour of India: Emajuddin
Former Dhaka University vice-chancellor Prof Emajuddin Ahmed today said most of the 22 deals signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh were in “favour of Indian interest”.
“The government has turned into the proverbial “Hatem Tai” and is giving all that it has. A total of 22 deals were signed with India during Modi’s visit but most of them were in favour of India. There is no interest in it for us,” Emajuddin, a pro-BNP intellectual, said at a roundtable held at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.
Desh Bachao, Manush Bachao Andolon (save country, save people movement] organised the discussion titled “Visit of Indian Prime Minister: Our expectation and achievement.”
Emajuddin Ahmed in his speech alleged that Bangladesh has been opened for India by signing the agreements.
“The government should realise that after opening our door to satisfy someone whether we will have the authority to keep our legs here,” he added.
Emajuddin, convener of Adrasha Dhaka Andolon, a pro-BNP think-tank, said people expected that all outstanding issues including the Teesta water sharing and border agreement issues with India would be discussed during Modi’s visit but country’s people have been disappointed as those vital issues did not come across the table.
