14-party alliance seeks EC Mahbub’s removal
Awami League-led 14 party alliance today demanded the resignation of Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder from his post following his recent comments over the election commission.
Mohammad Nasim, the spokesman of the alliance, came up with the demand at a press briefing after a meeting of the 14-party alliance at AL President Sheikh Hasina's Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka this noon.
“Commissioner Mahbub Talukder should resign from his post as he cannot speak any unconstitutional speech from his constitutional post,” said Nasim, also Health Minister.
Mahbub on Monday walked out of an election preparatory meeting of the commission placing what he said a note of dissent minutes after the start of the meeting chaired by the Chief Election Commission KM Nurul Huda at Nirbachan Bhaban.
Later, Mahbub Talukder explained before the media why he boycotted the meeting. During the briefing, he disclosed various reasons, including disagreement on various issues and not being allowed to give his opinion, behind the walkout of the meeting.
