‘BCL men’ attack leftists’ procession at CU, 10 hurt
At least 10 members of left-leaning parties were injured as members of a BCL dissolved committee today allegedly attacked a procession brought out on Chittagong University (CU) campus demanding re-election of Dhaka University Central Students Union (Ducsu).
Protesting “irregularities” in Ducsu election, the left-leaning parties brought out the procession at CU Shaheed Minarin the morning and demanded re-election to the Ducsu and resignation of DU vice-chancellor, reports our CU correspondent.
At least 10 members including six female students were assaulted during the attack, said Jannat, an activist of Progressive Students' Alliance.
The left-leaning party activists were attacked again allegedly by the same members of ruling Awami League’s student front, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), when they were going to the port city by a bus, said Mahbuba Jahan Rumi, organising secretary of CU Chhatra Front unit.
The alleged BCL men intercepted the bus at Fatehbad of Hathazari upazila and beat Gourachad Thakur, general secretary of CU Chhatra Union unit, indiscriminately, she said.
They also pushed off two female activists from the bus, leaving them also injured.
The injured are undergoing treatment at the university’s medical centre and a local clinic in Fatehbad.
