BNP’s Rumeen submits nomination for reserved seat

BNP lawmaker Barrister Rumeen Farhana today submitted her nomination paper for the seat reserved for women in the national parliament.

Barrister Rumeen Farhana, the assistant international affairs secretary of BNP, submitted her nomination paper to the Election Commission in the afternoon, the BNP leader confirmed it to The Daily Star.

Today is the last day for BNP to file nomination for the reserved seat for women.

The reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in proportion with their number of seats in parliament. Accordingly, 43 seats are allocated to Awami League, four to Jatiya Party, one for BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront, Workers' Party and independent candidates each.

The BNP and its Jatiya Oikyafront ally Gono Forum rejected the December 30 election results, citing irregularities and vote rigging. The BNP Standing Committee, the party’s highest policymaking body, had also decided not to join parliament.

But Later BNP has changed its stance and five of its MPs took oath in line with the party decision on April 29, the last day for taking oath. But party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who has also been elected as lawmaker, did not do so.
