The aggrieved leaders and activists of the recently-dissolved Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) central committee have postponed their agitation programme protesting age limit in the party charter.

The demonstrators came up with the announcement to end the demonstrations after holding meeting with the search committee formed by the former president and general secretary of the pro-BNP student front.

The vice-president of the now-defunct committee Ikhtiar Rahman Kabir said that the leaders of the search committee will give them a decision after holding talks with BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

"We have postponed our agitation programme hoping that a “positive decision” will come from him (Tarique)," he said.

They would lock the party’s central office in Nayapaltan again on Thursday and go for a hunger strike if their demands are not met by then.

Protesting the age limit in BNP’s charter, a faction of JCD locked the party’s central office in Nayapaltan yesterday.

Around 11:00am, several hundred leaders and activists of the recently-dissolved JCD central committee gathered in front of the party office and started demonstrating, according to witnesses. At one stage, members of the pro-BNP student organisation locked the main gate and continued their agitation.
