Pro-BNP intellectual Zafrullah Chowdhury today called upon BNP to sever its ties with Jamaat, gearing up the anti-government movement to restore democracy in the country and to free Khaleda Zia from jail.

“Come to the street forgetting all difference and give Jamaat divorce otherwise your movement to restore democracy in the country and to free Khaleda Zia from jail will not get momentum,” Zafrullah, also Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder said.

He came up with the call while addressing a programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club organized by Pro-BNP Diploma Engineers’ Association demanding immediate release of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.

Several top brass of Jamaat-e-Islami had been executed for their crimes committed against humanity during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

In this context, several pro-BNP intellectualists including Zafrullah, Badruddoza Chowdhury-led Jukto Front, Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Front and several European and Asian diplomats called the BNP to cut its tie with Jamaat but the party did not clear its stance yet.

Though Jamaat is abstained from open politics over last few years, the party on Tuesday in a protest meeting violently criticized the government for inking anti-state deals with India and called upon the people to become vibrant against domination force.

“It is your duty to ensure people’s voting rights and the countrymen are staring at you and we will have to be united forgetting all difference,” Zafrullah said pointing finger at BNP Standing Committee Mir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury who was also present at the programme.
