JCD men come under BCL attack at JnU; 7 hurt
Members of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) of Jagannath University (JnU) unit came under attack allegedly by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) when the they brought out a procession on the campus demanding release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
At least seven activists of JCD, student wing of BNP, were injured in the attack who received primary treatment from JnU Medical Centre later, reports our JnU correspondent quoting JCD men.
Witnesses said a group of BCL men of JnU unit led by Al-Sadik Hridoy, a student of Sociology department, chased the Chhatri Dal men when around 30 to 35 BCL leaders and activists brought out a procession on the campus around 9:30am demanding Khaleda’s release.
At one stage, BCL men swopped on the JCD activists, leaving seven of them injured, JCD men claimed.
The BCL men also caught Abdur Rashid, a JCD activist, and beat him up. He was later handed over to the proctor office.
Abdur Rashid was taken to JnU medical centre with critical injury from where he was shifted to Mitford Medical Hospital.
JnU JCD activist Shahriar Hossain told The Daily Star, "BCL men launched an attack on them leaving seven of their activists injured when they brought out a rally on the campus.”
Contacted, Al-Sadik Hridoy claimed some outsiders tried to create anarchy on the campus and chanted controversial slogans in the name of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. “So, we chased them on that time,” he added.
JnU Proctor Mostofa Kamal said they will take steps if anyone lodge written complaint in this regard.
