Khaleda to get bail normally if govt doesn’t create barrier: Moudud
BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed today sought a directive from the prime minister to the public prosecutors so that they would refrain from “creating hindrances” on the way of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail on bail.
“If you (PM) are talking about parole, please just stop the public prosecutors in creating a barrier. If it is done, Khaleda Zia would get bail normally. There will be no need to apply for parole,” said Moudud, also a former law minister.
While addressing a press conference at Gono Bhaban yesterday, the premier, about parole of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, said one has to apply first to be granted parole.
“No one has applied for that so far,” Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League, said.
Speaking at a human chain in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka, Moudud said, “It is clear that the government does not want Khaleda Zia’s release.”
Claiming that Khaleda Zia has been confined in jail by implicating her with false and politically motivated cases, Moudud also a standing committee member of BNP said, “Today or tomorrow, Khaleda Zia’s release will be ensured upholding her dignity.”
Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, woman front of BNP, formed the human chain demanding Khaleda Zia’s immediate release from jail and better treatment at a specialised hospital.
Khaleda Zia, also a former prime minister, is now undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University as she is suffering from multiple health complexities including pain in legs and hands.
Regarding the oath of BNP lawmaker-elect Zahidur Rahman against the party’s decision, Moudud said the current parliament will not be valid if more of the party lawmaker-elects join the parliament.
The government does not ensure representation of the people as the people’s opinion did not reflect in the December 30 national election, the BNP leader said.
A vacuum like situation is prevailing across the country and that is very awful for the people and the government as well, Moudud said calling upon the government to arrange an election under a nonparty caretaker management to avoid the possible crisis.
