Khaleda’s health report: Fakhrul blames govt, BSMMU for ‘contempt of court’

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has blamed the government and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) authority for committing contempt of court offence as they did not submit reports on Khaleda Zia’s health to the court yesterday.

“The government and the BSMMU VC committed contempt of court offence as they did not submit reports on Khaleda Zia’s health condition to the court as per directives,” Fakhrul brought the allegation while addressing a programme at the National Press Club in Dhaka today.

Yesterday, the Appellate Division deferred until December 12 the hearing on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail petition in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

The court also asked the medical board of the BSMMU to treat Khaleda Zia, to submit a report on her health condition before it within December 12, as they could not present the report yesterday as per the directive given on November 28.

He said a former prime minister, whose condition is critical, filed a petition for bail, but the court has given time those who defied its order instead of giving importance to the petition.

“The deferment is unfortunate for the nation and the country as the court did not put its due importance to our petition and take action against those who violated its directives.”

Fakhrul also criticised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as while addressing a programme a day before the hearing on the graft case, she said, “Khaleda Zia is in a good condition in jail, like a king.

“When the chief executive of the government speaks that everything is okayed, then how the BSSMU VC and doctors dare say the BNP chief is ill?’ Fakhrul said.

Claiming that getting bail is Khaleda Zia’s democratic rights, Fakhrul said doctors think the BNP chief may lose her life if she is not provided immediate proper treatment.

“We urge the authority to take proper steps for her (Khaleda) better treatment on humanitarian ground,” Fakhrul said.

Pro-BNP student leaders of Dhaka University Central Students Union (Ducsu) and All- Party Students Unity (Apsu) of the 90s arranged the programme demanding immediate release of Khaleda Zia and marking the fall of autocratic ruler HM Ershad in 1990.
