Many AL leaders now under surveillance: Quader
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said that many senior leaders of the ruling party and its different associate bodies are facing travel ban as they are under scanner.
“I don’t know exactly how many leaders are facing the travel ban. But many leaders are now under surveillance,” Quader said this while talking to reporters at his ministry office at the Secretariat in Dhaka this noon.
Earlier in the day, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, held a meeting with the representatives of the World Bank and the United Nations there.
His comment came following the recent crackdown against the casino and illegal business conducted by law enforcement agencies across the capital Dhaka.
Asked how many political leaders are facing restriction on their travels abroad, Quader, said: “I don’t know the exact number.”
According to different media reports, there is a travel ban on a total of 107 leaders of Awami League and its associate organisations.
When asked Quader said: “We’ve started drives from our own houses. Many leaders are now under surveillance. No wrongdoer will be spared.”
“Now all are AL leaders…why did we take them to our party? Now they are using the label of our party and that’s why we’ve started drives from our own houses,” the AL general secretary said.
He also reiterated that none would be spared if anyone was found involved in irregularity or corruption.
