No rule of law due to lack of accountability: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today claimed that there is no rule of law in the country because of the “absence of accountability”.
“People’s lives hold no value in this country. You can see a spree of murder, rape and arson, yet there is no justice or accountability,” Fakhrul said after offering ziarat at the grave of a slain BNP leader, Mahbub Alam Shahin, in Bogura.
Fakhrul expressed deep shock over the death of Shahin and condemned the incident, our Bogura correspondent reports.
Shahin, the general secretary of district BNP, was stabbed to death by a group of unidentified miscreants in Upashahar area of Bogura town on the night of April 14.
“The murder has caused a ripple not only in Bogura but also across the country. The residents of Bogura irrespective of their differences are saddened by his death,” Fakhrul said.
Fakhrul also urged people to stand in unity against all kinds of injustice.
“It is not a sin to do politics and to stand by the people but Shahin was killed because of his political affiliation,” the secretary general claimed.
The BNP leader also said his party is struggling to establish rule of law in the country as well as the rights of citizens.
Asked about BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health, Fakhrul said the BNP chief is having difficulty to sit straight and her movement has been confined to a wheelchair.
