Why DU isn’t among top universities, BNP asks

BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moeen Khan today raised a question as to why Dhaka University failed to find a place among the top-ranking universities in Asia.

“Why Dhaka University could not secure a position in the list is a major question of the nation,” Khan said while making observations at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka.

He said, 72 universities of China, 49 of India, 32 of Taiwan, nine of Pakistan and six universities of Hongkong secured place in the list. “Even, universities of Nepal and Sri Lanka also secured place in the list.”

“It’s a matter of great regret that Dhaka University could not secure any space in the list,” the BNP leader said.   

“Course, curriculum and syllabus of many departments of the DU are not updated to the ongoing standard of universities of the developed countries,” he said.

“The DU authority pushes books of many infamous Indian writers in the classrooms instead of famous publishers of the developed countries,” the BNP leader said.

Moeen Khan said: “A university is a place for education and research but these activities are inadequate on the university campus.” 

Times Higher Education, a London-based organisation, has recently published a list of a total of 417 top-ranking universities in the Asia but Dhaka University could not secure any position in the list.
