Now criminals safe, people unsafe: Ershad
Voicing deep concern over Jagriti Prokashani proprietor Faisal Arefin Dipan’s murder, Jatiya Party chief HM Ershad today said now criminals are safe in the country but common people are becoming unsafe because of the prevailing impunity culture.
“I’m observing with deep concern that the incidents of murder are gradually increasing. We now see the killers are safe, but the common people are panicked and unsafe,” he said in a statement.
The Jatiya Party chairman alleged that the criminals remain scot-free, while the affected people being deprived of justice though the incidents of killing and terror attacks are regularly being carried out.
Ershad, a special envoy to the prime minister, said it seems the government has become helpless.
“Victims’ relatives are saying they don’t want justice…it’s hard to imagine, when the father of a deceased can utter such painful words…,” he observed.
He deplored that innocent women, children, foreign nationals, political leaders and activists and common people are being targeted by killers. “Why aren’t the killers arrested? The incidents of murder are on the rise due to the prevailing culture of impunity.”
Condemning the recent murders, Ershad, a former military ruler, said, “The government has miserably failed to ensure security of people and their property.”
He demanded the government ensure the security and peace for people and the exemplary punishment to the killers after their immediate arrest.
