Cops foil BNP Victory Day rally in Narayanganj, 4 held
At least 10 leaders and activists of Narayanganj city unit BNP were injured today as police dispersed the party's Victory Day rally for what the law enforcers said the rallying people blocked a road and tried to create chaos in the area.
At one stage police charged batons on BNP supporters and snatched their banner and festoon at the rally by led by Joint Secretary General Monirul Islam Sajal of Narayanganj city unit of the party, local BNP leaders alleged.
Meanwhile, BNP supporters assaulted two police officials when police went to the spot in in rail gate no-2 and Chasara areas of the city, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting police and witnesses.
The BNP supporters were observing their programme by putting barricade on the road and attempted to create chaos in the area, Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station, told the correspondent.
Police foiled their processions as the BNP supporters assaulted Inspector (investigation) Joynal Abedin and Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam, the OC said.
Four people were detained from the spot and legal action will be taken against them, the police official added.
Police chased a group of local BNP supporters in the area around 11:30am while they were returning home after paying tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreaths in the city, the correspondent said quoting a witness of the incident.
Talking to the correspondent, BNP leader Sajal claimed that 10 leaders and activists of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal were injured as police charged batons on them without any provocation.
Police also detained three activists of Narayanganj city unit of Chhatra Dal from the spot, he said.
Besides, law enforcers disrupted the two Victory Day rallies brought out by Swechhasebok Dal and Shramik Dal in rail gate no-2 and Chasara areas of the city around 11:00am, he alleged.
