Cops foil meeting on Khaleda's release

Police in Dhaka today foiled a discussion programme on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's release.

Organised by Zia parishad, the discussion was scheduled to be held at the Institution of Engineers around 11:00am.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir among other party leader and activists could not enter the venue as policemen told them that no programmes will be held there today.

This is an example of the lack of minimum space for practicing democracy in the country in the tenure of the present government, Fakhrul alleged while briefing journalists at the venue later.

Today's discussion programme was arranged by an organisation of intellectual people, he said.
