Cops ‘withdrawn’ from Khaleda's residence: BNP
The lawmen, who were deployed in front of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan residence in Dhaka, were withdrawn this afternoon, Shamsuddin Didar, a member of BNP chairperson’s media wing, claimed today.
A four-member team of police led by a sub-inspector deployed in front of the house left the house around 3:00 pm, Didar told The Daily Star.
Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, told Bangla daily Prothom Alo that he did not know anything about the matter. Police assigned for Gulshan diplomatic zone oversee the matter, he added.
Meanwhile, a top official of police (Gulshan diplomatic zone) told the daily that they do not oversee the security arrangements at Khaleda Zia’s residence.
BNP chief Khaleda Zia landed in jail after a Dhaka special court sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8.
