Power, gas price hike: 20-party demo Saturday

Stop use of Awami League slogan

The BNP-led 20-party alliance has announced a countrywide demonstration for Saturday protesting the recent power and gas price hike.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the alliance’s chiefs at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office Sunday night.

BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan today sent a press release attaching a leaflet where it urged all to participate in the demonstration.

"We are urging all to wage a collective protest and resist such an anti-state decision. If we fail to resist the decision, the government will again increase the gas tariff in December," read the leaflet.

Demanding cancellation of the decision, it said the government has looted money in the name of quick rental power plants and has now imposed the burden upon the people to compensate for the loss.

The daily expenditure of people of the country will go up due to the price hike of power and gas.
