Activists of Pragatisheel Chhatra Jote, an alliance of left-leaning student organisations, today placed their five-point demand which included cancellation of the polls result of Dhaka University Central Student’s Union (Ducsu) election.

The activists said they would boycott exams and classes scheduled to be held tomorrow and bring out a rally from Raju sculpture and march to the DU vice chancellor’s office to press home their demands.

Liton Nandi, the general secretary of Chhatra Union, made the announcement at a press briefing at Modhur Canteen this afternoon.

The activists also demanded declaration of a new polls schedule citing “vote rigging” and also urged the authorities not to engage those, who discharged duties during the recently held Ducsu polls, in the fresh election.

They also asked the authorities concerned to withdraw all cases filed against their activists.

WHAT WAS THE RESULT OF DUCSU POLLS?

In Monday's elections (March 11), which came after 28 years, BCL got 23 of the 25 Ducsu posts.

Nur, a popular quota reform leader, shocked the BCL by winning the VP post by a huge margin of votes. Another quota leader also made it into the committee.

Students, including leftist and independent candidates boycotted Monday's Ducsu polls and brought out processions on the campus, demanding a fresh election for the last few days.

WHAT HAPPENED IN DUCSU ELECTION?

The long wait to Ducsu election was marred in election boycott by all the major panels over allegations of irregularities and vote rigging.

Only Bangladesh Chhatra League was the major panel left contesting in the election.

The other panels exploded in protests after boycotting the election and protested in campus demanding a re-election to Ducsu. They also called a student strike.

Proof of irregularities was found in Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall, for which the provost was relieved of duties on Monday. Stashed unstamped ballots were found in Ruqayyah Hall.
