Prepare to move for polls under neutral govt: Khaleda
Reiterating her party’s firm stand on parliamentary election under neutral government, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today called out to prepare for a movement.
“No election can be held with Sheikh Hasina in power. Power will have to be handed over to a neutral government,” she said firmly at a programme in Dhaka.
Khaleda, also a former prime minister, asked the party’s leaders and activists to prepare for a movement for the demand, and simultaneously organise for the next general election.
She was speaking at a programme in Mahanagar Natya Mancha, organized by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal, a front of BNP, to observe Bangladesh’s 47th Victory Day.
Calling upon the other political parties to unite, Khaleda said: “We are all victims. Let’s unite and wage a movement to restore democracy and establish peoples’ government.”
Without being specific, Khaleda said her party’s anti-government programmes will be announced soon.
“You must move forward for both movement and election. We believe we'll succeed this time and be able to restore multiparty democracy in the country,” she said to her party’s activists.
The political archrival of ruling Awami League, BNP is a party that boycotted the last parliamentary election. However, thus far, it seems the party will join the next election.
